Telecom Technician III

Responsibilities

Follow test plans, record and present test results. Make corrections where test results indicate nonconforming results. In the absence of the Technician III, provide temporary supervision of installation crew.

Must have experience using tube bending equipment to bend structural pipe, tube, bar, etc. to specifications.

Minimum Education: High School Graduate.

  • Configuration Management will also provide metrics which detail the accuracy of information included in the CM repositories and timeliness of data being entered into the database.

OVERVIEW

VFI is seeking to contract a Cisco Network Technician to support the network infrastructure modernization effort underway at the US Army approved site at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.  The implementation involves remediation of all supporting telecommunications rooms ISP, infrastructure, installation of new Cisco switches, network testing, and program management support.  The position will support two deployments of sixty to ninety days to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.

DUTIES

  • Staging, provision, installation, and cutover of new Cisco switches and ancillary hardware
  • Support Telecommunications Room (TR) remediation activities including; electrical and network cabling, cable management, installing fiber patch panels, cable labeling, grounding and bonding, installation of UPS equipment and environment alarms, installation of racks, and identifying non-compliant or non-functioning equipment
  • Support network testing activities
  • Support ancillary tasks required to complete all work to include but not limited to Program Management Support, Configuration Management, Site Surveys, Cybersecurity, and Logistics
  • Update network documentation including Red-Line Drawings, As-Built Diagrams, and Cable Route Diagrams

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certification or equivalent experience
  • DoD 8570.01-M Level II (Security +) certification and associated CE certificate
  • 5 years’ experience installing, administering, and maintaining Cisco network equipment in a datacenter or enterprise environment
  • Knowledgeable with switching and routing concepts including BGP, OSPG, DMVPN, tunnels, and VLAN’s
  • Strong understanding of WAN, CAN, and LAN architectures
  • Familiarity with physical network components, installation of copper and fiber patch panels, cable termination, testing, cable management, grounding and bonding
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Information Assurance (IA) controls

REQUIRED CREDENTIALS

  • Must possess a DoD SECRET Security Clearance

OVERVIEW

The Systems Operation Center (SOC) is staffed to provide performance and availability monitoring and notifications on a 24x7x365 basis.  The SOC provides the following services:

  • Detects, analyses, and notifies service providers when service restoration is needed
  • Monitors applications, databases, servers, network devices, and middleware
  • Provides a unique and comprehensive enterprise-wide view of Sandia's computing infrastructure
  • Monitors real-time customer experience by tracking features such as application performance and response time

DUTIES

This SOC Analyst position provides for the monitoring and notification of Sandia National Laboratories IT infrastructure which includes servers, network, databases and applications.  Duties also include hourly walk thru inspections of 40,000 sq. ft. data center.

This is a full-time position for which we are seeking highly motivated, innovative professionals to provide excellent customer service.

The successful SOC Analyst Technician provides 24x7x365 support in the following:

  • Experience working with ITSM /Smart IT ticketing systems
  • Capable of meeting and exceeding Service Level Agreements (SLAs) as required per customer requirements
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook (email) Visio & Power Point required
  • Network, application, database and telephone switch monitoring and analysis
  • Batch processing monitoring and analysis, out-of-hours Service Desk calls and Corporate Central Computing Facility (CCF) stewardship.
  • Monitor batch processing job flows on two corporate networks and monitor that requested batch completion times are met and escalate.
  • Respond promptly and accurately to error notifications and alerts.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve batch-processing delays.
  • Timely and accurately notify Sandia of batch processing errors, delays or problems to appropriate support personnel using documented processes.
  • Restart jobs that ‘abend’ using available documentation. Assists and works closely with support personnel to resolve issues as necessary.
  • Respond expeditiously to requests from Sandia for priority job execution. Notify appropriate support personnel of documentation discrepancies or other batch processing issues following established procedures.
  • Complete ad-hoc Sandia-defined batch processing and backups in the correct sequence and within the time periods designated by Sandia.
  • Start jobs manually absent automated processes.
  • Prepare nightly reports on issues encountered.  Maintain operations analysis documentation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma
  • 2+ years of experience providing IT support in a corporate setting.
  • Demonstrated understanding of TCP/IP networking
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Security Clearance
  • Ability to perform hourly walkthroughs of the Corporate Central Computing Facility (CCF) (approximately 40,000 sq, ft,)
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities simultaneously is required.
  • Familiarity with government security and accessibility guidelines
  • IT/Customer service experience (good people skills) in an environment with SLA requirements
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving issues with desktops, servers and networking systems.
  • Experience in a ticketing and monitoring systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving batch processing job flow problems
  • Flexibility agility to support a 24-hour a day/365 days/year operation
  • Must have expert computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite experience
  • Must be capable of passing a basic background investigation
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to communicate in English, both written and orally.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 50 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment.  Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, and kneeling to perform essential functions.  Working conditions are primarily inside.
