General Description: VFI is seeking multiple Telecommunication Technicians IV to support an installation project in the Norfolk, VA area.

Location(s): Norfolk, VA

Pay Scale: $22 to $30 hourly

Relocation: Reimbursement Available

Responsibilities:

TELECOMMUNICATION TECHNICIAN IV

Responsibility:

Manage and supervise installation crew and maintain progress and cost reports, technical presentations and provide accurate as-built drawings, administration documentation, and test results for final delivery.

Education:

Minimum of High School Diploma, Two-year technical degree preferred or industry and or military training and certifications.

Minimum Experience:

  • Six (6) years’ experience in organizing and supervising structured cable systems and Inside Plant (ISP) installations and site surveys
  • Supervisory and project management experience of installation crews
  • Ability to coordinate with Project Manager, Design Engineer, and other subcontractor(s)
  • Experience working from design plans and specifications and possess the ability to meet scheduled deadlines for completion of project(s)
  • Possess conduit, tubing, or pipe bending skills to enable fabrication of pipe configurations to fit within existing building infrastructure.
  • Experience with DoD, National, EIA/TIA and BICSI technical and OSHA safety standards
  • General knowledge of operating principles of wired, wireless and RF environments
  • Wireless network (802.11b/g/a/n, WLAN/WWAN/WMAN) survey/deployment/support experience is preferred
  • Possess a general knowledge of wired/wireless equipment installation and basic testing methods and procedures
  • Ability to interpret and perform tasks outlined in vendor documentation, technical specifications, and network practices, engineering letters and job aids. Knowledge of telephony networks include DS1, DS3, OC, and various IP networks. Dexterity to connect and disconnect various sizes and types of electronic connectors
  • Ability to work in overhead rack or grid for extended periods of time pulling long lengths of heavy cables
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50lbs independently and up to 90 lbs. with assistance, as necessary.
  • Ability to climb ladders and steep staircases, including scissor lifts. Ability to multi-task and maintain composure in stressful and demanding work environments

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma: A minimum of eight (8) years of cabling experience in the communications industry is required.

Minimum Training/Certification:

BICSI-certified ITS Technician or Industry equivalent experience.

Tasks:

  • Serve as the single point of contact to the on-site Project Manager
  • Manage, schedule, and supervise a team of technicians generally comprised of Technician levels III and II
  • Supervise all testing of new facilities and where necessary testing of existing facilities
  • Direct corrective action to recover any found defects or troubles with the installation of the new system
  • Supervise the running and lacing Ethernet, and fiber cabling to include termination and testing as well as installing / removing overhead equipment mounts

  • Four (4) years’’ experience in executing installation from implementation drawings, administrative documentation and equipment data
  • Terminate copper and fiber optic cable
  • Follow test plans, record, and present test results
  • Make corrections where test results indicate nonconforming results. In the absence of the Technician III, provide temporary supervision of installation crew

Minimum Education:

High School Graduate.

Minimum Training/Certification:

BICSI-certified ITS Technician or Industry equivalent experience.

The Journeyman Electrician installs, repairs, tests, and maintains electrical equipment, machinery, and systems such as generators, alternators, motors, and intercommunication systems.   • Manages and participate in installing power and grounding for complex communication equipment, ensuring proper electrical connection and grounding.
  • Able to maneuver in small spaces and lift 50lbs

Minimum Experience:

  • Vocational or High School diploma or equivalent and 5+ years' experience leading to licensure as a Journeyman Electrician or equivalent license at a State level; or six years' experience in an equivalent Military Electrician training/certification

  • Experience using tube bending equipment to bend EMT, conduit, structural pipe, tube, and/or bar to specifications

OVERVIEW

VFI is seeking to contract a Cisco Network Technician to support the network infrastructure modernization effort underway at the US Army approved site at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.  The implementation involves remediation of all supporting telecommunications rooms ISP, infrastructure, installation of new Cisco switches, network testing, and program management support.  The position will support two deployments of sixty to ninety days to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.

DUTIES

  • Staging, provision, installation, and cutover of new Cisco switches and ancillary hardware
  • Support Telecommunications Room (TR) remediation activities including; electrical and network cabling, cable management, installing fiber patch panels, cable labeling, grounding and bonding, installation of UPS equipment and environment alarms, installation of racks, and identifying non-compliant or non-functioning equipment
  • Support network testing activities
  • Support ancillary tasks required to complete all work to include but not limited to Program Management Support, Configuration Management, Site Surveys, Cybersecurity, and Logistics
  • Update network documentation including Red-Line Drawings, As-Built Diagrams, and Cable Route Diagrams

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certification or equivalent experience
  • DoD 8570.01-M Level II (Security +) certification and associated CE certificate
  • 5 years’ experience installing, administering, and maintaining Cisco network equipment in a datacenter or enterprise environment
  • Knowledgeable with switching and routing concepts including BGP, OSPG, DMVPN, tunnels, and VLAN’s
  • Strong understanding of WAN, CAN, and LAN architectures
  • Familiarity with physical network components, installation of copper and fiber patch panels, cable termination, testing, cable management, grounding and bonding
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Information Assurance (IA) controls

REQUIRED CREDENTIALS

  • Must possess a DoD SECRET Security Clearance
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be able to pass CENTCOM medical screening
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. or more
