Moves, Adds and Changes (MAC) Technician

Responsibilities:

On-site installation, repair, operation, maintenance, and technical support of the Telephone telecommunications cable systems at a large Government facility in Idaho.

Location: Idaho Falls, ID

Specific Duties:

  • Support to the Government telecommunications systems, including inside and outside cable system repair, maintenance, and installation, as assigned by the supervisor. Assigned cable systems will emphasize LAN/WAN cable systems typically utilizing CAT 3/5E/6 copper, fiber, and/or coax cable and outside plant cabling to include copper and fiber-optic.
  • Provide crossover support to other Technicians on-site as required by the Supervisor.
  • Proficient use of special tools and test equipment.
  • Cable troubleshooting/splicing, climbing, manhole work, lifting, and operation of heavy equipment.
  • Support and perform installation of single, dual, triple or quad LAN and voice jacks as needed.
  • Direct involvement in work order evaluation, scheduling, and execution, and on-time work order update and closeout.
  • Isolate system problems and malfunctions; take timely corrective actions.
  • Additional work hours beyond normal duty hours may be necessary, at times, to complete the weekly workload based upon the discretion of the supervisor.
  • On-call availability during off-hours in the event of service problems with the system.
  • Effective time management to allow for involvement in special task order projects as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Fostering of excellent relations with the Customer and the team.

Required Skills: 

  • Experience and proficiency in installation, termination and testing of premise/building/Network cabling to include Cat3, Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, Fiber-Optic, Coax, Riser and Backbone Cables.
  • Ability to interpret CAD design drawings and adhere to NEC, BICSI - EIA - TIA specifications.
  • Must have overall understanding and knowledge of telecommunications\ infrastructure and voice and data applications.
  • Must possess solid experience in complete pre-cabling preparation, installation of patch panels, punch down 66/110 blocks, 110-patch panel, and various data and voice jacks.
  • Capable of working effectively with co-workers and fulfill customer requests

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoE Security Clearance.
  • Strong computer skills with emphasis on applications are required.
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities simultaneously is required.
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Ability to work extremely flexible hours and support on-call duties and shift work is required.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Education / Experience:

Minimum Associates degree, 2-year technical degree, relevant military experience, equivalent special electronics training, or five (5) years of equivalent work experience with various types of horizontal cabling and vertical riser cabling; fiber, copper, and category 3-6A wiring; terminations, telephone backboards, protector blocks, termination blocks, main distribution frames (MDFs), intermediate distribution frames (IDFs), and patch panels supporting the various cable types. Must have good knowledge of structured, customer premises and outside plant cabling.

CISCO Network Engineer

General Description

Seeking a Network Engineer to design, implement, maintain, and support a growing network infrastructure.  This position is a member of a systems engineering team responsible for designing and developing secure, scalable, and maintainable network architectures that meet business objectives and SLAs.

Location: Idaho Falls, ID

Responsibilities

  • Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS)
  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations
  • Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability
  • Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning
  • Provide Level-2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues
  • Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure
  • Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the company’s security team
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or 5 years equivalent experience

ONT (Optical Network Terminal) Field Support Technician

Optical Network Terminal Field Support Technician

General Description

Seeking a full-time ONT Field Support Technician to support installation, replacement, or removal of optical network terminals.

Location(s): Albuquerque, New Mexico

Travel:

Responsibilities

  • Follow established procedures to identify, diagnose, and initiate remediation of technical faults
  • Install, remove, and replace obsolete or damaged Optical Network Terminals
  • Conduct proper cable management
  • Ensure the two systems of records are updated
  • Update support documentation such as checklists, procedure charts and status reports
  • Ensure customers work area is restored after installation is complete
  • Work outside of normal work hours when required
  • Collaborate with customer stakeholder teams to perform root cause analysis and restore network connectivity

Education / Experience

  • Minimum of a high school diploma
  • One year of IT support experience in a corporate environment
  • Knowledge of Gigabyte Passive Optical Network (GPON)
  • General knowledge of desktop computer applications and computer network concepts
  • Familiarity with ITIL Support Management standards and IT industry best practices

Qualifications

 Seeking a full-time Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to install and configure multiple systems and network security components, assist in developing cybersecurity policy and doctrine, and provide hands on mentoring of the cybersecurity operations staff.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the installation and configuration of network security architectures, including firewalls, router ACLs (Access Control Lists), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Security Information Event Management (SIEM), antivirus applications, and insider threat / data loss prevention tools
  • Mentor Cybersecurity Operations staff in developing Risk Management Framework (RMF)-based policies and procedures, and develop comprehensive cyber security processes
  • Guide technical design reviews, integration, testing, and documentation work
  • Provide technical advisory
  • Identify threats and develop suitable defense measures, evaluate system changes for security implications, and recommend enhancements, research, and draft cyber security white papers, and provide first-class support to the cyber security operations staff for resolving difficult cyber security issues

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer engineering/science required
  • 5+ years’ experience in the research, design, development, and deployment of complex software architectures and systems with a focus on full spectrum cyber security operations
  • Experience in conducting research and development of cyber capabilities for the purposes of system and application defense
  • Veteran enterprise-level security strategic planning experience
  • Knowledge of DoD (Department of Defense) 8500 series Risk Management Framework (RMF)

VFI is seeking an experienced Nortel/Avaya technician capable of managing the advanced programming and maintenance of switching, data communications, and peripheral equipment associated with the Nortel/Avaya M1/CS1000 product line.

Location: Idaho Falls, ID

Responsibilities
• Installation, operation, and maintenance of the switching, data communications, and peripheral equipment associated with the Meridian 1/CS1000 PBX
• Coordinating the installation, testing, and troubleshooting of transport facilities (OC48, T3, T1, and DSO)
• Updating daily logs
• Composing clear and concise reports
• Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations
• Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability
• Provide support and troubleshooting to resolve issues
• Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure
